Crown Court

The Crown Court hears serious criminal cases and may feel extremely intimidating but there are many benefits for selecting this court if you are afforded the chance to do so.

If your case is sent to the Crown Court of if you elect the Crown Court various hearings may take place, the likely first hearing, should you plead not guilty, is your Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing (PTPH). This hearing will usually take place approximately 28 days after your first appearance in the Magistrates Court. At the PTPH you will be expected to enter your plea and a date for your trial will be set. The judge will set directions for the prosecution and defence to work towards when preparing for your trial.

Whilst trial preparation is underway in your case there may be the requirement for ancillary hearings such as pre-trial reviews or case management hearings, they are usually requested by either party if issues arise, or by the court who may want to check in with the parties to ensure the case is going to be read for trial. Please be assured, our team of expert trial lawyers will guide you through this process and you know exactly what is going on in your case at each step of the way.

If you plead guilty to an offence there is likely to be two hearings; your first appearance at the Magistrates Court, and your sentencing hearing in the Crown Court if your case is sent there to be dealt with.  In these circumstances we work with you to get the most lenient sentence possible and will guide you step by step along the way.
